Thank you for the mention, Marcel! This question might sound a bit weird, rude even but it is just curiosity: why are you sharing (unedited) photos from a project you don’t know the concept of yet? Does it help you to understand more about the motivation behind it? Or what is your motivation for sharing? I am asking because I sometimes work on something without knowing where it might lead me to, but I usually don’t share anything before I figured it out. Would love to understand the idea behind it…
Very good question, Susanne. I think I will put my answer in next Tuesday's newsletter as it is an essential part of why I started Darkrooms in the first place. My curiosity on how we as photographers work. So if you can have a little patience, next week we can hopefully have a discussion on that.
I think the first frame is my favorite. The large negative space on the bottom of the photograph creates a nice compression of the sky above, which add to the moody scene. Nice set, Marcel ! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you for sharing this project. It looks very interesting. I like the high contrast look. Your horizons are not level in two shots. This ruins them as it’s a basic error.
Thanks Chris. Bit sloppy indeed to post them like this. These images are straight from the camera. I edit only after I actually select them for the project.
Sometimes the "horizon" is not level in a photograph, because it is not a level horizon. A horizon is not always straight across even where we might perceive it should be.
Great work, Marcel!
My #1 is 'ever-winding ditches'. The way the curves of water and pathway flow into one another.
Lovely work Marcel, and a fascinating project.
I find some of the photographs meditative and calming.
Thank you Shital. Not intended this, but glad this resonates with you.
I love the darkness of these images - its really interesting to follow your process in documenting and story-telling before you make the edits.

Great! Looking forward to it!

Thanks Alvaro. When I first saw this bridge I had this song text by Transatlantic in mind immediately.
love the leaving the path picture
Thanks Wesley. My favorite as well
The photo of the lonely sailing ship is absolutely spectacular. Wonderful! Those must be Frisian cattle, yes?
I like it too. Not sure if it is a 'Friese Kotter' but I guess so.

I’m specifically talking about the horizon over a body of water which really should be level.
