I use a viewfinder about 90% of the time. It makes me feel like I'm taking a picture because when I use it, it seems like I put a little bit more thought into the framing. When I use the screen I feel like I don't put that much thought into it. That could be because I started with film cameras though.

habit. that's the main reason i'm using the viewfinder. i had a small point and shoot (so small that i could put 2 of them in one pocket, if i left it on a table i could cover it with my palm) which gave me no choice only to use the screen. because i switch between digital and analogue (no screen) i developed the habit of using the viewfinder.

As a photo teacher, forcing students to use a viewfinder, improves there images a thousand fold, particularly waist level on a medium format camera which reverses movement in the scene. They become better photographers almost overnight! Viewfinders slow the artist down to better evaluate composition and what the camera lens really produces, instead of what we think is in the scene.

I'm old school! I grew up using a viewfinder.

I can imagine, but never tried how the other way works for you?

Yes those reasons too, but what about the need of reading glasses 🤓

It’s almost the opposite for me. Using a viewfinder makes me feel more like I’m observing and analyzing a scene from the periphery.
