Chaturday & A follow-up poll
You told me you prefer a viewfinder. Now tell me why. Ooh, and let's discuss photos!
In the latest newsletter, I started a poll because I am interested in how you photograph. One of the things often discussed is whether to look through your viewfinder or through your LCD screen. The result was very ticked off; The vast majority of photographers use the viewfinder to take their pictures, see the result:
I'm curious about the reasons behind this choice though, and therefore a new poll!
It is mainly meant for photographers who use the viewfinder, so primarily base it on why you use that one in particular.
Please all fill in this poll and if you have any other remarks, leave a comment as unfortunately there is no possibility for 'open answers' in this poll.
Starting a photo discussion group for subscribers?
In the newsletter by the end of August about discussing photographs, there were a lot of photographers who like to have a place where they are able to discuss photos in a mature, respectful way. I’m also looking for a place like that, so why not start one myself?
made it easy for us by creating the Chat functionality. All subscribers of Darkrooms will have access to Chat once I’ve opened it later this week. The plan is to start new chats on Saturday where we’ll be discussing one or more photos at a time. You will get notified of it automatically.Let's rename Saturday Chaturday
By the way, here’s the post if you haven’t read it yet.
Unleash Your Creativity
I’ve made an e-book, packed with inspirational quotes on photography a while back. It can be found at Gumroad. For a limited time it is free to download. Well, free or ‘pay what you like’ if you want to support me in creating this newsletter, e-books like this and - from October 2nd - a quarterly magazine.
That’s it for this week.
Till next time,
DARKROOMS is a free, weekly photography newsletter, published on Tuesdays. If you enjoy this newsletter, the best way to help it grow and support me is to share it with your friends who might like it.
I use a viewfinder about 90% of the time. It makes me feel like I'm taking a picture because when I use it, it seems like I put a little bit more thought into the framing. When I use the screen I feel like I don't put that much thought into it. That could be because I started with film cameras though.
habit. that's the main reason i'm using the viewfinder. i had a small point and shoot (so small that i could put 2 of them in one pocket, if i left it on a table i could cover it with my palm) which gave me no choice only to use the screen. because i switch between digital and analogue (no screen) i developed the habit of using the viewfinder.
