Good on you for breaking the pattern and reclaiming your time and autonomy.

It is amazing how habit forming it can be to "peak in" and get sucked in instead.

Well said Marcel. I read Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport a couple of years ago which has influenced my approach. All notifications have been turned off on my phone (except phone calls) and the hours I used to spend on Twitter have been cured by someone messing about with it and calling it X.

Thanks. I've read this kind of books as well and they really are eyeopeners. And yes, I also see the correlation between Twitter under new ownership and time spent...

I feel you man, the only time I'm on Instagram is when I sit in the loo. I rarely open it now as it feels like they just force feed me random crap to my brain.

I've switched to sketching, journaling and making my zines and books a lot more crafty. Your way to detox and being present sounds pretty good too!

That's my plan of attack too. If you ever wanna do a zine trade, let me know!

Nice, yeah let's do it! Maybe a collaboration too?

I agree, too much time, for notes for posting for office hours. That’d mean a full time job! … for free. Also do social medias become you more sociable or just weirdly opposite

Agreed. The naming 'Social' is so wrong...

Oh, this is social media all right.

Yes, but without the volatility of IG for instance.

I'm now 1.5 yrs not using my IG. I'm down a mere 200 followers, each month still 10-20 start following me .... there's nothing meaningful in tbe social connections on IG. Substack brings me joy, IG brought me stress.

I'm glad I never had FB or IG. Looks like a good move at the time.

Marcel, I am right there with you. I use Facebook for some of the groups I'm in, don't use Instagram much, only get to X if there is a link that a friend provided, and then I close it. I walk without earbuds, and it's really invigorating... in fact, I think I'll write about the walks this week, so thank you! The whole multi-task idea has been debunked over and over, so when I'm tempted to scroll during some other activity, I ask myself this one big question: Should I even be doing that activity in the first place, if I'm so drawn to scrolling? If yes, recommit, if no, then quit! That should be on a t-shirt somewhere...

Haha, I like the shirt idea. Where can I sign up?

I have a timer on my FB & IG apps and it is shocking to me how fast 30 minutes go by when you use those apps!
