After the summer holidays, I finally started to think seriously about how I would set up the upcoming exhibition during Kunstroute Culemborg.
Last year I participated as well, and just like then, I was given the same location. A location I am very happy with, as it is in the middle of the city centre and has 7 metres of white wall with dark paneling underneath.
If you want to see what I exhibited last year, have a look at this short tour of the space.
Same venue, different exhibition
Selecting the works and the form in which they will be exhibited
I have already selected the work I want to show there. That is, more than I can and want to show. One of the walls is reserved for a work that only exists in my imagination. And it looks stunning. Whether it will be so in reality remains to be seen. I am working hard on it, but it is a work over 3 metres wide with hundreds of layers. Something I don't normally do, so it's really exciting.
Another important point I am always hesitating about is the finishing of the photos. Should I just print them and frame them with a passe-partout? Or have them printed on dibond or glass like last year.
The form should suit the image and what I want to convey with it. I have already finished one piece. It is printed on brushed aluminium because it suits the image perfectly. You can see a similar look in the video of the previous exhibition with the first two works, both printed on brushed aluminium.
The exhibition is in the last weekend of September, so I still have some time, but I also want to have made a decision. There is a lot of other work to be done as I also want to print a zine to sell during the art tour.
Apart from that, Darkrooms continues as usual. The special RNBXPLRNG will be published on the 10th of September, for which you can submit 5 photos until the 6th of September. Check out the details here. The fifth issue of Darkrooms Magazine will be released on 1 October. You can submit photos for the regular magazine as well as for some planned specials. See the info at the bottom of this page.
So there is plenty to think about and work on. But more on that when the exhibition starts.
Question for you:
Do you always know in what form your photos should end up?
That’s it for this newsletter.
Till next time,

I’m very much still learning about all the possibilities to print work! Good luck with the exhibition :)
Usually the work itself will tell me whether it needs to be small or big, framed or printed on all-dibond or else. I am sure you will figure out what works best for your work.
