What will be featured in your photo?
Do you know in advance what will be included in your photo? Photographers have it pretty easy.
Photographers have it pretty easy. You point your camera at something and you look through the viewfinder or the screen on the back of your camera and you're done. Is it that simple?
How different is it for other disciplines in the creative corner.
Before you can create anything comes a moment when there is nothing in front of you except possibilities, the need to start and the fear of taking those first steps in the wrong way.
A writer starts with a blank paper. A blank, white sheet that can seem pretty intimidating. Try putting some words on that to form a whole, be it a book or a poem. Typing those first words, where do you begin. Backspace is your friend.
Although a painter also starts with a blank canvas, depending on what he is going to paint, he may already have an image in front of him when he paints a landscape, for example. This is similar to a photographer shooting a landscape. The painter who wants to create something abstract does have to deal with the crippling emptiness of the white canvas.
Well, then there is the photographer. He can take it easy. Just point and shoot. All done.
Or isn't it? That depends entirely on what you are photographing. The aforementioned landscape is indeed a matter of pointing and shooting, with attention to the composition and the right camera settings for your idea of the scene.
For many other subjects you can photograph, however, there is much more involved. A portrait may seem easy to create, but an original portrait requires some head-scratching and, in the absence of creative inspiration, can be as paralyzing as a blank sheet of paper.
If you go out on the street to shoot street photos, on the one hand you have plenty of subjects to get in front of your lens, but here the overabundance of options can cause stress.
Developing an idea in advance to take a photo of is often a good way to start but no guarantee of a successful photo.
