Welcome to Darkrooms
Photographs originate in darkrooms. Whether analogue, digital or mental, the captured image becomes visible.
Photographs originate in darkrooms. Whether analogue, digital or digital, the captured image becomes visible. But first of all a photograph is created in that other darkroom, your grey matter. You decide what will end up on that one-dimensional piece of paper (and those bits and bytes on your screen for the non-printers among us).
Because I am fascinated by this process, I want to write down my findings on this blog. I often think about why you photograph in the first place. What makes you click? Why were you triggered at that very moment to grab your camera and capture what was in front of your lens? I will show you that search for answers here on this substack.
Who is this guy behind Darkrooms?
This blog is written by me, Marcel Borgstijn. I’m a conceptual photographer from the Netherlands.
I prefer to work on long-term projects. Projects that are very close to me and in which I can find more in-depth inspiration. I am a member of several photography groups, participate in discussiongroups and follow mentorships.
Love to browse through photobooks or look at online portfolios. And if there is no time to take photos myself, I am thinking about it. Always looking for ways to shape the images in my head. Occasionally I blog about the visual storm in my head.
