Un/Taken ep. 3 Dennis Sewberath
Are you ready for Un/Taken episode 3? Want to read what you don't get to see?
This topic is about the photo you did not take. If you haven’t seen the first two episode, read the story of Oliver Parish or Rikard Landberg.
I’ve asked the Amsterdam based street photographer Dennis Sewberath about his photos, taken and untaken.
Here we go.
Untaken
Which photo was untaken and why did you not take it?
When you do street photography you can get very close to people when you offer help. I saw these two ladies struggling to put down a red carpet during a little windstorm. To help them I offered to sit on the carpet. In the meantime, I secretly tried to make photos from them. But afterwards it turned out that I had the snap focus distance incorrectly on my Ricoh GR. Too bad because it was fun trying to get the red carpet right. Anyway, unfortunately I didn't made the photo but helped someone and had fun.
Taken
Which photo that you did not expect to take surprised you the most?
I make many of my photos while cycling. This woman quickly called her dog to her because I was about to get into the street. Only afterwards did I see all the interesting parts. The three-legged dog in combination with one hand down from the woman and the invalid carriage behind it. The man with a gas bottle in his bag. ÂMany times you may think you are lucky with a photo. Of course that can be the case too, however often it is that you already have seen something interestingly unconsciously. So if you feel like there might be something, just shoot.
Who is Dennis Sewberath?
My work mainly focuses on my personal conflict of feeling lost in this world. I’m looking for both the quiet and busy moments, unnoticed corners and rushed life in the city.ÂI shoot in a quick, simple, childish and raw candid lomography snapshot style. Just observing the daily life. Mostly in Amsterdam.
