Impressions of a silence retreat on the Wadden Islands

At the beginning of 2022, when Covid-19 was still raging around the world, I went to Vlieland, one of the Wadden islands in the north of the Netherlands, for a few days. I love to be alone for a while once a year and enjoy the peace and quiet.

That year it was extremely quiet because everything was closed. I had to eat alone in my room. Keep your distance was the motto. Not so difficult when you are on an island with only one small village, hardly any tourists and miles and miles of nature, hiking trails, dunes and the beach.

Just me, the birds, the murmur of the sea and a hip flask to keep me warm.
