Darkrooms Magazine issue #10
A special edition of the magazine. It's the result of our Selfmentoring-group with projects and additional essays in 172 pages.
This special edition of Darkrooms Magazine celebrates our year-long creative endeavor: six photography friends working together in a Self-Mentoring Group, each developing a personal project through peer critique and mutual support. The result is 172 pages showcasing our work and the insights we gained along the way.
I shared the story of our group in last year’s final newsletter. If you missed it, you can catch up here:
Turning our projects into a magazine
The response to our collaborative approach was overwhelming. Fellow photographers were intrigued by how we pushed each other's work forward through structured feedback and accountability. That enthusiasm inspired me to transform our projects into this special edition of Darkrooms Magazine.
While the regular issues feature portfolios alongside essays about the featured projects, this edition goes further. I invited Ton S and Kees to contribute practical essays on two critical challenges every photographer faces: selecting photographs and turning a project into a book. Their contributions add valuable perspective beyond our six projects.
Looking forward
This magazine serves two purposes: it's both a meaningful conclusion to last year's Self-Mentoring journey and a benchmark for what we're aiming to achieve in this year's group. The bar has been set. Now we're ready to reach it again.

Another great edition of Darkrooms magazine. It was very interesting to read each photographer’s story behind their project and gain an understanding of their thought process. It was also interesting to see a couple of photos that were recently highlighted in your weekly Phototalk series and to see them anew as part of a series. You did a great job putting it together, Marcel, and thanks for sharing it.
Congratulations! What an inspiring collaboration. And the quality throughout is top notch.
